People often ask me what my favourite part of being a wedding photographer is.  I really do love it all, but mostly, I love seeing all the love and excitement that surrounds a couple and their family on a wedding day.

And we all know that nobody brings love and excitement like children do. The huge smiles, sense of occasion and extra fun that they bring means that photographing children has been a decades long source of joy for me.  I am always extra happy when they are at weddings, in their formal little outfits feeling like royalty.

I will always do my best to get those sweet, candid portraits on the day where they feel so important.

Here are some sweet wedding activities to help them feel extra important on the day:

  • Give them an official duty, such as welcoming guests or introducing a speech.
  •  Reading a passage in the ceremony
  • Walking down the aisle with you
  • Arm them with disposable cameras and have them be 'junior photographers'
  • Flower girl or ring-bearers are always so cute.
  • If your children are teens, have them be a part of the bridal party as a bridesmaid or groomsmen.

When it comes to group photos, I will always make certain to get any photos with little ones (and old people) first, so that they can go and relax. I am always mindful how small our window really is, when children are involved :-)
